Shon Hedges was first exposured to film editing through his great uncle, William Reynolds, the legendary multiple Academy Award winning editor (The Sound of Music, The Godfather, The Sting, Hello Dolly, Sand Pebbles, Turning Point, The Day the Earth Stood Still ). Bill taught Shon editing on a Moviola and a Kem when Shon was just fourteen. His influence on Shon was formative and Bill remains a constant source of inspiration. Shon attended Middlebury College in Vermont where he majored in Film and minored in Studio Art.
After college, Shon worked as a production assistant for David Lynch on Inland Empire. Next, Shon was hired as a production assistant and then as an apprentice editor on the Warner Bros. feature Must Love Dogs and soon after that he joined the Editors Guild Local 700. Shon's first job as an editor was on the 3D IMAX feature African Adventure: Safari in the Okovango which is now in worldwide distribution.
His next job was as an assistant editor for the Bedford Falls Company on the Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick online/ television show quarterlife. Marshall was so impressed with Shon's editing of the pilot that he hired Shon as a series editor and Marshall became a lifelong mentor to Shon.
After quarterlife, Shon worked as a supervising editor at the NBC affiliate sports network Universal Sports and also with NBC sports on a variety of sports shows. He recently finished cutting a several pilots: “Buppies” is a drama for the Black Entertainment Network and “A Marriage” is a pilot for CBS directed by Marshall Herskovitz and written by Herskovitz and Ed Zwick.
